In 1865, William Chatterton Dix penned the poem that would become the beloved Christmas carol “What Child Is This?” This Advent, we will explore the question at its heart—a question far more complex than the gentle, lilting tune of “Greensleeves” might suggest. Together, we will look at the story leading up to the birth of Christ in its full, historical, trauma-informed context. The patterns of humanity—oppression, suffering, and corruption—echo through history and into our own stories. And yet, the carol reminds us of a profound truth: God is present with us. This presence remains a source of Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love, especially in the midst of difficult times. We look forward to welcoming you!
