Hi All!

The Funeral/Memorial Service will happen on Saturday, Nov. 16 for Diane Zeravsky in the Sanctuary with a  Calling Hour at 12 NOON. Service will start at 1 p.m. A luncheon will be provided by the family for all in the lower social hall immediately following the service. Please stay and reminisce and celebrate Diane’s life.

I just received a phone call from Mike Nishnic from South Carolina that Joyce Nishnic, his mother and our church member, 96 years old and still living alone in her home, fell down the steps and died.  A cousin found her this morning.  No service details yet.  Please pray for Joyce’s daughter, Lori Schanz, who will be hard hit with this sudden death.

Pre-ordered soup and sandwiches will be available for pick-up on Thursday, November 21 from 3 to 5:30 p.m.

Need a holiday gift? We are selling lottery number calendars for January 2025. Each calendar costs $20 and the number of the day wins! More details soon, but calendars will be available on Saturday at the Bazaar and anytime after that at church.

The next All Things Free sort and store is Monday Nov. 18 starting at 10 a.m. Help is needed. Please speak with Millie Kohler for more information.

NEWSFLASH!!!! We have old church items to sell. If you are interested, you get first chance, but you must let us know by Nov. 8. Old Sunday School wooden children’s chairs will be sold for $15 each. We have over 50 to sell. They will be available at the Bazaar for the General Public. We are requesting $15 each. If you want several, we can make a deal. We ARE keeping 10 for current and future classes. ALSO we have the old desk/secretary that Marvin Yeakel used to use when recording Sunday School offering and attendance. You should be able to see a picture of it below. It is very tall and very old. Best offer. Same details as above apply.

Other News

  • Did you know that your smoke detectors are only good for about 10 years? After that time you should change them out for new ones! Bring your old smoke detectors to the church to recycle! They need to be recycled as hazardous waste because of internal components. Leave them at Pastor Lori’s office door and we will recycle them for you! Please take out any regular batteries and we can recycle those too! See the bucket at the door of her office.
  • We will also take “running” dehumidifiers. PPL will pick up units at my house if I have more than 2 to recycle. They will also give us $10 for each unit. So please check with me if you have a running but possibly inefficient unit you would like me to recycle. Thanks!
  • Thank you so much for the bags of batteries you have given to the church! We have taken them to Staples and have been given points we can use in the future for free supplies for the church! Do you have expired batteries to get rid of? Don’t throw them away; bring them to the church to recycle!! Staples will accept certain types of batteries for recycling, and our church will get credit for taking them in. I will have boxes at the front and ramp doors for your “contributions.” Batteries to recycle by bringing them to the boxes at church:
    • Lithium ion (Li-Ion)
    • Nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH)
    • Nickel zinc (Ni-ZN)
    • Non-rechargeable lithium
    • Rechargeable nickel cadmium (Ni-Cd)
    • Single-use alkaline
    • Small sealed lead acid (SSLA/Pb)
  • Upcoming Events
    • Laura’s Custom Frame Shop, 1328 Chestnut Street, Emmaus, has an exhibit of Heather Cavalieri works on paper. Check it out!
    • Mark your calendars for Nov. 24 for the afternoon “Cornucopia of Thanksgiving Concert” to be held at Zion’s Lutheran Church up the hill. This is our Ministerium Thanksgiving service. All kinds of talent is being sought to make this concert special. Talk with me if you are interested.

As always, we have many members and friends in need of prayer due to death, illness, loneliness, new living situations, and other difficult times; remember, too, those who still recover from war, oppression, and natural disasters all around the world, including the devastation resulting from hurricanes Helene and Milton. We also have many members and friends celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, and other joys, from new babies to cancer remission and so much more. Please continue your faithful prayers for comfort, strength, healing, and thankfulness. Thank you for being the church!

Peace to all,
Lori Esslinger
